Five Americans Among Seven Killed in Kenya Safari Helicopter Crash
A helicopter carrying tourists on a safari in a remote part of northern Kenya crashed on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of all seven people on board. The U.S. State Department confirmed that five Americans were among the deceased. The victims included a Florida-based Telemundo TV station manager, José Alberto Suárez, and a prominent Miami restaurateur, Roger Duarte. Ecuador's intelligence chief, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and his wife, Stephany Holliham Yeaza, were also identified among the fatalities. The helicopter, owned by Lady Lori Helicopters and operating a charter flight for travel company &Beyond, crashed at 9:13 a.m. while en route from Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation into the incident. Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing, complicated by the rugged terrain and an active fire at the crash site in the foothills of Mount Ololokwe.
