West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Announces 56th Annual Nature Wonder Weekend
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) has opened registration for the 56th Annual Nature Wonder Weekend, also known as Wild Foods Weekend. This event, scheduled for September 11-13, 2026, will take place at North Bend State Park in Cairo, West Virginia. It is recognized as the longest-running event of its kind in the nation, offering guided nature hikes and educational workshops focused on foraging, preparing, and enjoying wild foods. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn plant identification, preparation techniques, and medicinal uses from experts like Bill Beatty, an outdoor education specialist with over 50 years of Appalachian foraging experience, and Dave Hawkins, a Master Herbalist. The weekend also includes a social hour with contests for best wild food, cake, and drink.
