Study Links Excessive Television Watching to Potential Brain Health Risks
A recent study has found that individuals who frequently watch television may experience reduced brain volume in areas associated with cognitive control and language. The research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, involved over 1,700 middle-aged participants who reported their television viewing habits and time spent sitting at work. The study revealed that those who watched television 'very often' had smaller brain volumes and more white matter hyperintensities, which are linked to cognitive decline and dementia. Interestingly, sedentary behavior at work did not show the same negative brain changes, suggesting that not all sedentary activities have the same impact on brain health.
