UK Invests in Hypersonic Target Development to Enhance Missile Defense Capabilities
The UK Ministry of Defense has announced a £20 million investment in developing a hypersonic target, known as a 'hypersonic clay pigeon,' as part of Project Bowline. This initiative, led by Lockheed Martin UK, aims to support the testing of next-generation air defense systems, including sensors and interceptors. The project is part of the UK's collaboration with Australia and the U.S. under AUKUS Pillar 2, focusing on rebuilding the UK's sovereign hypersonic target capability. The target is designed to reach speeds of up to Mach 5, addressing the need to counter rapidly evolving hypersonic threats.
