Wisconsin Muslim Community Leader Detained Over Pro-Palestinian Speech, Attorneys Claim
Salah Sarsour, a prominent Muslim community leader in Wisconsin, has been detained by federal immigration agents, sparking legal battles over his detention conditions and the reasons behind his arrest. Sarsour, who emigrated from the West Bank and settled in Milwaukee over three decades ago, is accused by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security of funding a terrorist group and lying on his green card application. His attorneys, including those from the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, argue that his detention is politically motivated due to his pro-Palestinian activism. Sarsour's case has been transferred from Chicago to Kansas City, assigned to a senior immigration judge, which is unusual for such proceedings. His legal team claims this is part of a broader campaign against Palestinian activists by the Trump administration.
