Senator Welch Demands Answers from DHS on $464 Million No-Bid Contract to Trump-Allied Company for Aircraft
U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vermont), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, along with Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), has sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin demanding transparency regarding a $464 million no-bid contract. The contract was awarded to Daedalus Aviation Corporation, a company led by William Walters, who is identified as a strong political ally of President Trump. The contract was for the purchase of ten aircraft, including three luxury business jets and seven Boeing 737 passenger jets. The Senators expressed concerns about the Department's increasing reliance on no-bid contracts since the beginning of the second Trump Administration.
