Rhode Island Leaders Launch Campaign for 2026 Green Bond Ballot Initiative
Environmental, municipal, and state leaders in Rhode Island have launched a campaign to garner voter support for the 2026 Green Bond ballot initiative, which proposes $55 million in funding for environmental projects. The kickoff event took place at the Crescent Park Carousel in East Providence. The Rhode Island Green Bond Initiative, a coalition of over 10 organizations and individuals, aims to secure investments in clean water, climate resilience, outdoor recreation, green infrastructure, farmland, and open space. Key elected officials, including Rhode Island DEM Director Terry Gray, East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva, Rhode Island State Senator Lou DiPalma, and Rep. Megan L. Cotter, emphasized the importance of preserving the state's natural resources and quality of life for future generations. The bond includes funding to improve waterways, conserve farms and land, and enhance outdoor recreational facilities.
