Texas Mothers Sue to Block Ten Commandments Displays in Schools
Three mothers from Houston have filed a lawsuit in Harris County to prevent the enforcement of a Texas law that mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. The law, known as Senate Bill 10, requires all public elementary and secondary schools to display donated posters of the King James Version of the Ten Commandments. The plaintiffs, representing Sikh, nonreligious, and multi-faith households, argue that the mandatory displays violate the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Parental Rights Amendment. They have requested a temporary restraining order to halt the law's enforcement before the new school year begins. The lawsuit highlights concerns about religious freedom and the potential exclusion of students from diverse religious backgrounds.
