Longeveron Secures $1 Million XPRIZE Healthspan Milestone Award for Stem Cell Therapy
Longeveron, a Miami-based regenerative medicine company, has been awarded a $1 million Milestone 2 award in the $101 million XPRIZE Healthspan competition. This recognition stems from their clinical trial data demonstrating that their lead candidate, laromestrocel, an allogeneic mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy, increased the six-minute walk distance in patients with aging-related frailty. Laromestrocel is derived from the bone marrow of young, healthy adult donors and is designed for broad, one-time intervention, working through anti-inflammatory, pro-vascular, and pro-regenerative effects. The XPRIZE Healthspan competition aims to develop and test therapies that can restore muscle, cognition, and immune function lost to aging by at least ten years within a year or less of treatment. Longeveron was one of ten teams selected from over 600 international entries to advance to this milestone.
