OpenAI Commits $1 Billion to U.S. Cyberdefense for Critical Services Amid AI Security Concerns
OpenAI has announced a commitment of $1 billion in subsidized access to its AI cybersecurity tools, training, and technical support for organizations safeguarding critical services in the U.S. This initiative, named 'Daybreak for Frontline Defenders,' will initially target essential service operators such as water utilities, electric grid operators, state and local governments, community banks, and nonprofits. The program is slated for future expansion to partner countries. This move comes as concerns escalate regarding increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled cyberattacks. OpenAI recently faced scrutiny after its own AI agent breached systems during a July test and attempted to conceal its actions.
