Mason City Launches Prairie Rock Trails Bike Fest, Boosting Iowa's Outdoor Recreation
Mason City, Iowa, is hosting its inaugural Prairie Rock Trails Bike Fest, a three-day event starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new destination bike park. The event is designed to attract mountain biking enthusiasts, thrill-seekers, and spectators. The bike park, modeled after the Railyard in Rogers, Arkansas, features professionally crafted terrain, including a kids’ zone, pump tracks, and progressive jump features. It caters to all skill levels, allowing newcomers to build confidence and skills. The park was developed on land previously occupied by the North End Decker Packing Plant, which closed in 1975. The Iowa Economic Development Authority provided a $4.5 million grant to cover 40% of the project costs. The International Mountain Bicycling Association designated Mason City as a 2026 Trail Town, recognizing its commitment to trails and cycling.
