Los Angeles City Council Proposes Hotel Tax Increase for Olympics
The Los Angeles City Council has approved a ballot measure that will be presented to voters in June, proposing an increase in the city's hotel and short-term rental bed tax. The measure, known as Measure TT, seeks to raise the tax by 2% until the conclusion of the Olympics, after which it will be reduced to a permanent 1% increase. This initiative is part of a broader set of ballot measures that also include Measure TC, which would require online travel companies to pay taxes on their markups to Los Angeles customers, and Measure CB, which aims to tax illegal cannabis businesses at the same rate as legal operators. The proposed tax changes are intended to generate additional revenue for city services and level the playing field between traditional hotels and online travel companies.
