Residents of the Inland Northwest are grappling with the challenges of traveling during the region's wildfire season, which typically peaks in August and September. A recent discussion among locals highlighted the impact of natural disasters, including wildfires, hurricanes, and tornadoes, on travel plans. In Spokane, Washington, a significant wildfire on August 1 led to the evacuation of 65,000 people, accounting for over a quarter of the city's population. Some residents were forced to prepare 'go bags' as evacuation orders loomed, while others hosted evacuees in their homes. The unpredictability of weather patterns, including reduced snowfall in recent years, has made it increasingly difficult for residents to plan travel around seasonal weather risks. Many are reconsidering their travel schedules to avoid extreme weather conditions and disruptions.
