Buffalo Grove High School Security Guard Remembered for Heroic Actions
Orlando Rivas, a security guard at Buffalo Grove High School, was honored posthumously for his heroic actions that led to his death. On April 24, Rivas died after a car accident near the school. He pushed students out of harm's way as a utility pole fell, ultimately sacrificing his own life. Friends, family, and community members gathered at Finn McCool’s Irish Sports Pub to pay tribute to Rivas, who was remembered for his dedication to the students and his community. His father, Roy Rivas, who worked as a chef for the Chicago White Sox, expressed pride in his son's selfless act. Former White Sox outfielder Ron Kittle and radio personality David Kaplan co-hosted the event, sharing fond memories of Rivas.
