Driver Crashes into Pedestrians on Upper West Side, Resulting in Two Deaths and Three Critical Injuries
A tragic incident occurred on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, where a driver lost control of his vehicle and struck pedestrians on a sidewalk. The crash took place on Amsterdam Avenue near 109th Street at around 6 p.m. on Friday. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the driver, a 61-year-old man, may have been under the influence when he jumped the curb, resulting in the deaths of a 35-year-old man and a 46-year-old man. Three other men, aged between 36 and 52, were critically injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, noting that the driver was swerving and driving at high speed before the vehicle went airborne and landed on the pedestrians. The driver appeared confused and disoriented after the crash. The NYPD is treating the incident as an accident, and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
