Nevada Representative Susie Lee Reintroduces Bipartisan Earn to Learn Act to Combat Student Loan Crisis
U.S. Representative Susie Lee, a Democrat from Nevada, has reintroduced the bipartisan Earn to Learn Act. This legislation aims to assist low-income students in covering education-related expenses by providing matching funds for their college savings. The bill is designed to address the escalating student loan crisis in the United States. According to a news release from Lee’s office, the program, if enacted, is projected to support approximately 250,000 scholarships over a five-year period. The Earn to Learn model, on which the act is based, has demonstrated a first-year retention rate of nearly 90% for its scholars, with most graduating with less than $10,000 in student loan debt. The proposal has previously stalled in committee during its two prior introductions, and companion legislation in the U.S. Senate has not yet been introduced.
