Renato Moraes de Jesus: Pioneer of Atlantic Forest Restoration in Brazil Leaves Lasting Legacy
Renato Moraes de Jesus, a renowned forest engineer, played a pivotal role in transforming the Vale Natural Reserve in Espírito Santo, Brazil, into a leading center for Atlantic Forest conservation and restoration. Over more than three decades, he established scientific collections, laboratories, and nurseries, protecting nearly 23,000 hectares of forest. His work included designing the restoration of Fazenda Bulcão and contributing to the technical program that became Instituto Terra. Moraes de Jesus was known for his practical approach to forestry, developing methods and training others to ensure the continuation of forest restoration efforts. He passed away on May 23rd at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to forest conservation.
