Atlanta City Council Proposes Task Force to Address Data Center Impact on Community
The Atlanta City Council is considering the formation of a Data Center Task Force to evaluate the development and regulation of data centers within the city. This initiative, introduced by Councilmember Kelsea Bond, aims to address concerns about the rapid growth of data centers in Georgia, which is becoming the second largest data center market in North America. The task force would examine the effects of data centers on electric grid capacity, water supply, noise levels, and local tax implications. The task force's findings will be presented to Mayor Andre Dickens and the City Council to guide future regulations. Environmental groups, such as the Georgia Sierra Club, have expressed concerns about the potential negative impacts of data centers on air quality, water resources, and utility costs.
