French Widow Returns Home After Detention by U.S. Immigration Authorities
Marie-Thérèse Ross, an 85-year-old French widow, has returned to France after being detained by U.S. immigration authorities for overstaying her visa. Ross, who married an American military veteran, was held in federal custody for 16 days. Her son, Hervé Goix, emphasized the family's priority to ensure her rest and recovery following the ordeal. Ross had entered the U.S. last June and was in the process of applying for a green card when she was detained. The detention occurred after a dispute over her late husband's estate, allegedly instigated by her stepson. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot criticized the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement methods as not aligning with French standards.
