Iowa Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott Faces Backlash and Attack Ads Despite Anti-Trans Stance
Iowa Democratic candidate Sarah Trone Garriott, a state senator and minister representing Iowa's 14th district, has faced significant criticism and attack ads despite adopting an anti-trans stance in her campaign. In an ad released last month, Trone Garriott stated, 'I oppose letting men in women’s locker rooms,' and claimed that 'politicians have become too extreme on these issues.' This position, seemingly intended to appeal to conservative voters, has not prevented the Congressional Leadership Fund, a right-wing PAC, from launching an attack ad against her, utilizing footage from her own commercial. Critics argue that Trone Garriott's capitulation to anti-trans sentiment is a disturbing willingness to compromise on civil rights, especially given her previous statements in 2023 where she acknowledged the discriminatory nature of similar 'bathroom bills.'
