Slow-moving Thunderstorms Cause Flooding in Canonsburg, Impacting Local Businesses
A series of slow-moving thunderstorms hit the Canonsburg area on Wednesday night, resulting in significant flooding that affected several businesses and made key roads impassable. The storms, which began shortly after 6 p.m., brought over two inches of rain in just an hour, particularly impacting the business district on West Pike Street. Michael Spadaro, a local resident, assisted in cleanup efforts at Community Motors, which avoided structural damage, unlike other nearby businesses. The National Weather Service reported that the rapid rainfall, rather than the total amount, was the primary cause of the flooding. Additionally, the storms caused trees to fall in Cecil Township, leading to power outages and road closures.
