Proposed Pioneer Pipeline Expansion Through Summit County Raises Conservation Concerns
HF Sinclair is evaluating an expansion of its Pioneer Pipeline, a refined-fuel line connecting Sinclair, Wyoming, to Salt Lake City, Utah. This expansion, which would increase capacity by approximately 35,000 barrels per day, is the first phase of a larger western pipeline project intended to move more refined fuel into western markets. The proposed route through Summit County has raised questions, particularly concerning an existing easement that crosses the county-owned 910 Ranch, a property protected by a conservation easement. While an alternative route along Interstate 80 has been discussed, the county must balance its pipeline regulations with the conservation agreements governing the 910 Ranch. Utah Governor Spencer Cox's office has also announced efforts to encourage additional fuel infrastructure in the state, including legislation to streamline permitting for oil and gas infrastructure.
