Inspector General Releases Details and Footage of Deadly Police Shooting in Newington Involving Hartford and Rocky Hill Officers
The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General has released new details and bodycam footage concerning a fatal shooting incident in Newington. The event, which occurred last week, involved officers from the Hartford, Newington, and Rocky Hill police departments and resulted in the death of a suspect, Hector Perez, 37, and injuries to two officers. The incident began in Hartford when officers were investigating illegal activity on Fales Street and Sission Avenue, receiving a report of a person brandishing a small gun and making threats. Hartford police officer Alexander Diaz attempted to apprehend Perez, who fled on foot. During a struggle, Diaz reportedly felt a firearm on Perez, who then broke free and drove away in a black Honda Accord Crosstour. A pursuit ensued through Hartford, ending in Webster Court in Newington, near the Rocky Hill town line.
