France Implements Ban on Unsolicited Telemarketing Calls to Protect Consumers
France is set to implement a new law banning unsolicited telemarketing calls starting August 11. The law, supported by President Emmanuel Macron's government, aims to protect consumers from intrusive sales pitches and fraudulent practices. Previously, French consumers had to register their numbers with a government service to avoid such calls, but the new law prohibits businesses from contacting consumers without prior consent. Violators face fines of up to 375,000 euros for companies and 75,000 euros for individuals. The law responds to widespread consumer complaints about relentless telemarketing calls, with estimates suggesting that three-quarters of French people receive at least one unsolicited call weekly.
