NJ Rep. Kean Profits from AI Stocks Amid Data Center Controversy and Rising Electricity Costs
U.S. Representative Tom Kean of New Jersey has reportedly gained financially from investments in companies linked to the AI data center industry, as revealed by his recent public disclosures. This comes at a time when the expansion of data centers in New Jersey is under scrutiny for contributing to a significant rise in electricity costs, with consumer bills increasing by up to 22% over the past year. Kean's investments in companies like Texas Instruments, NVent, and Analog Devices, which supply essential components for data centers, have sparked controversy, especially as he faces a competitive midterm election against Democrat Rebecca Bennett. The data center industry has been criticized for its environmental impact and the strain it places on local resources, leading to legislative efforts by Democratic Governor Mikie Sherrill to regulate their expansion. More than 25 towns in New Jersey have enacted or proposed bans on data centers, reflecting widespread public concern.
