Record Heat and Isolated Storms Hit New York City
The tri-state area is experiencing unusually warm weather, with temperatures reaching record highs. On Wednesday, New York City saw temperatures climb to 90°F (32°C), surpassing the previous record of 87°F (31°C) set in 1941. Newark Airport also recorded a high of 90°F (32°C), breaking its record from 1960. Other locations such as LaGuardia Airport, Bridgeport, and Islip set new records as well. This heat wave is attributed to a ridge of high pressure over the Western Atlantic Ocean, bringing warm air from the Southern U.S. into the region. Alongside the heat, isolated storms may develop Wednesday night, particularly south of a stationary front over upstate New York. These storms could reach severe levels, with damaging winds as the primary threat, although they are not expected to be widespread.
