Colorado Springs Police Utilize Drones to Enhance Public Safety and Reduce Crime
Colorado Springs has experienced a significant reduction in crime rates, particularly in homicides and car-related crimes, from 2024 to 2025. This improvement is attributed to the strategic use of drones and license-plate readers by the local police department. The city saw a 28% decrease in homicides and a 42% reduction in car thefts. Police Chief Adrian Vasquez highlighted the effectiveness of focusing resources on specific crime types, which has led to more efficient investigations and arrests. The use of drones has been particularly impactful, with a single drone responding to 1,423 calls in 2025 and 2,500 calls in the early months of 2026. This makes Colorado Springs one of the top three cities in the U.S. for drone-assisted law enforcement responses.
