Charlotte Water Enforces Restrictions Amid Ongoing Drought, Issues Violations
Charlotte Water has implemented mandatory water restrictions since May 15, aiming to reduce water usage by 5% to 10% due to a persistent drought affecting the area. Despite recent rainfall, the drought conditions continue, necessitating the continuation of these restrictions. As of last week, Charlotte Water has exceeded its reduction target by more than 5%. The restrictions prohibit non-essential water activities such as filling pools and operating ornamental fountains. To enforce these measures, Charlotte Water has issued 84 violations to customers who have not complied, with fines starting at $100 and increasing for repeated offenses. Additionally, 23 exceptions have been granted for specific circumstances, including health and safety concerns and critical business operations.
