Georgia Doctors Advocate for MMR Vaccination Amid Declining Rates
In Georgia, health experts are urging parents to ensure their children receive the MMR vaccine as the state's vaccination rate for measles, mumps, and rubella has fallen below the recommended level. According to recent data, only 87% of kindergarteners in Georgia are vaccinated against these diseases, which is significantly lower than the 95% threshold needed for effective community protection. Dr. Macy McNair, associate residency program director at Morehouse Medicine, emphasized the importance of back-to-school checkups to address this issue. The American Academy of Family Physicians also highlighted the rising number of preventable disease cases statewide, stressing the need for increased vaccination coverage. Parental hesitancy, often fueled by misinformation found online, is cited as a major barrier to achieving higher vaccination rates.
