Western Sydney International Airport Launches Commercial Freight Operations, Enhancing Global Trade
Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) has officially commenced its commercial freight flight operations. The airport's 24-hour Cargo Precinct is now operational, capable of handling eight 747 or 777 freighters or 16 737 or A320 domestic freighters simultaneously. This development marks a significant milestone as WSI is Australia's first major international greenfield airport in over 50 years. The Cargo Precinct has already attracted major players such as Qantas Freight, Menzies Aviation, dnata Cargo, dnata Catering & Retail, and Texel Air. These companies have signed on to utilize the facility, which is expected to eventually handle up to 1.8 million tonnes of air cargo annually. The airport had previously conducted successful cargo trial flights with a Qantas A321 aircraft. The official launch of freight operations was confirmed by Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King.
