Morehouse College Multimedia Center Faces Funding Challenges After Initial Jordan Brand Investment Concludes
Morehouse College's new multimedia center, which opened recently, is facing funding headwinds as the initial $1 million investment from NBA legend Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand has concluded. This investment, secured with the crucial involvement of award-winning filmmaker and alumnus Spike Lee, supported scholarships for 32 students and funded the purchase of equipment, space design, and build-out. The center aims to elevate visual storytelling for Morehouse students, foster future journalism leaders, and provide access to high-quality cameras, studio space, and recording equipment. Emani Saucier, the inaugural director and co-founder, noted that the center's soft launch last year saved students over $25,000 in equipment rental costs, with content produced generating over a million social media views in August alone. The center also supports entrepreneurship by mentoring students interested in starting their own media companies.
