Married Couples Dominate NYC Homeownership, Except in Manhattan, PropertyShark Analysis Reveals
A recent analysis by PropertyShark indicates that married couples constitute the largest group of homeowners in New York City, accounting for 51% of all homeowners. This figure, however, is notably lower than the national average of 59%. Manhattan stands out as the sole borough where this trend is reversed; nonfamily owners, including single individuals or those living with unmarried partners or roommates, surpass married couples in homeownership, holding 48% compared to married couples' 45%. Across the other boroughs, married couples remain the dominant homeowner demographic, with Staten Island leading at 60%, followed by Brooklyn and Queens at 53% each, and The Bronx at 42%. The study also highlights that female-led families are the primary owner type in five NYC neighborhoods, peaking at 44% in Longwood, The Bronx, while male-led family households do not lead in any neighborhood.
