NJ Transit Announces Service Changes Amid Final Phase of Portal Bridge North Construction
NJ Transit is implementing temporary service changes across most of its lines as the final phase of construction for the new Portal North Bridge begins. Starting Friday, NJ Transit and Amtrak crews will commence moving the final track from the 116-year-old Portal Bridge to the new structure over the Hackensack River. These service adjustments will affect all NJ Transit lines except the Atlantic City Line, beginning Sunday and lasting until November 14. During this period, trains will operate on a single track between Newark and Secaucus, leading to fewer trains running into Penn Station New York on weekdays. Specifically, Midtown Direct service into Penn Station New York will be suspended on weekdays for the Morristown Line, Gladstone Branch, and Montclair-Boonton Line, with riders on these lines being diverted to Hoboken.
