Ecuadorian Woman Released from ICE Detention Amid Legal Battle
Chantal Alejandra Morales Rojas, an Ecuadorian woman arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Denver International Airport, has been released from federal custody. Her arrest, which gained significant attention after being captured on video, occurred while she was attempting to board a flight back to Oakland. Morales Rojas was detained for allegedly overstaying her visa, although her attorneys argue she entered the U.S. lawfully as a J-1 exchange visitor and had filed an application to remain in the country while her case was under review. Her release on a $3,000 bond allows her to return home while her immigration proceedings continue.
