Massachusetts Maritime Academy Cadets Recognized for Innovative Power Solution Paper
A team of six cadets from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy has earned an Honorable Mention at the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Paper Night held at MIT. The cadets, Jackson Perrault, Colby Townsend, Nico Restrepo, Tiernan Moran, Devlin Keon, and Hung Tran, presented a paper titled 'Bulk Carrier to Mobile Powerplant: Designing Alternate Power Solutions.' Their research focused on the feasibility of converting a bulk carrier into a mobile powerplant to supply electrical power to coastal and island regions during infrastructure disruptions and in areas with limited grid connectivity. Dr. James McKenna, dean of undergraduate studies at the academy, praised the cadets for their dedication and technical skill.
