Senator Cornyn Withholds Support for Trump's Attorney General Nominee Over Fund Concerns
Todd Blanche, nominated by President Trump for the position of U.S. attorney general, is facing a potential setback in his Senate confirmation process. Republican Senator John Cornyn has expressed concerns over a controversial $1.8 billion fund tied to Trump allies, which is part of a settlement agreement between Trump and his administration. This fund, known as the 'anti-weaponization fund,' along with an agreement providing Trump and his associates protections from tax audits, has led Cornyn to withhold his support. Cornyn canceled a meeting with Blanche, demanding written assurances from the Justice Department addressing these issues. Blanche, who is currently serving as acting attorney general, requires unanimous Republican support in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance his nomination. Cornyn's opposition could be decisive, as he has not received satisfactory documentation addressing his concerns.
