Five Drown in Scioto River While Trying to Rescue Struggling Swimmer
Five individuals drowned in the Scioto River in Ohio after attempting to rescue a swimmer in distress. The incident occurred in the Columbus suburb of Powell, where a group had gathered by the river. A child, who was part of the group, ran to seek help, prompting a motorist to call 911. Rescue teams found two women who were later pronounced dead at a hospital, and the bodies of three men were recovered from the river the following day. The Delaware County Sheriff's Department is handling the case, and two children under the age of 10, including the one who sought help, have been placed in the care of family services.
