Four New Jersey Teens Rescued from Franconia Ridge, Face Potential Billing for Lack of Preparation
Four 18-year-olds from New Jersey, identified as Jainam Bhavsar, Purva Jayani, Tirth Shah, and Advik Yadav, were rescued from Franconia Ridge in New Hampshire's White Mountains after calling 911. The group encountered difficulties at 5,000 feet, with one hiker experiencing sore legs and trouble breathing. New Hampshire Fish & Game reported that the teens were unprepared for the conditions, lacking proper clothing, lights, and sufficient food and water. Strong winds and cold temperatures were present at high elevations on Friday night. Volunteers and a conservation officer hiked 4.2 miles to locate the hikers over three hours after the initial call, guiding them back to the trailhead throughout the night. The agency stated that the rescue costs were covered by the NH Hike Safe Card and the Search & Rescue Fund, not by hunting, fishing, or trapping license fees.
