Cambridge University Launches Independent Investigation into Jason Arday's Appointment Amid Plagiarism Allegations
The University of Cambridge is initiating an independent investigation into the appointment of Jason Arday, a former professor of sociology of education, following his resignation amid allegations of plagiarism. The university's vice-chancellor, Prof Deborah Prentice, acknowledged the concerns surrounding Arday's appointment and announced that the investigation would be conducted by senior academics from both within and outside Cambridge. Arday, who became Cambridge's youngest black professor in 2023, denies the allegations and claims that the scrutiny has been overwhelming. The investigation will examine the circumstances of his appointment in 2022 and his tenure at Cambridge. Previous investigations by Liverpool John Moores University, where Arday earned his PhD, found no evidence of plagiarism.
