Ukraine Strikes Russian Missile Site in Kapustin Yar, Damaging Key Infrastructure
Ukrainian forces have conducted a series of air strikes on Russia's Kapustin Yar airfield in Astrakhan Oblast, targeting a significant hub for Russia's intercontinental ballistic missiles. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, these strikes, carried out over January, resulted in substantial damage to a hangar and other infrastructure, leading to the evacuation of some personnel. The Kapustin Yar site, historically significant for Russia's missile program, was hit using Ukraine's FP-5 'Flamingo' cruise missiles, which are capable of long-range strikes. This development marks a notable escalation in Ukraine's military capabilities, as the Flamingo missiles are domestically produced and have been in mass production since August.
