Man Injured by Falling Stone Facade in Manhattan, Loses Fingers
A man suffered significant injuries after a piece of stone facade fell from a building in Manhattan, crushing his hand and resulting in the loss of at least two fingers. The incident occurred in front of 832 Broadway in Greenwich Village, just before 4 a.m. on a Saturday. The victim was sitting near the entrance of the 10-story building when the heavy stone detail fell, according to police and FDNY officials. He was quickly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. The building, owned by Buchbinder & Warren LLC, has been marked with a safety violation notice, requiring an engineer's report following the collapse. Witnesses described the sound of the falling stone as resembling an explosion, and the area was subsequently cordoned off with caution tape and NYPD barriers.
