Kauri Lane Transforms Urban Void into Green Retreat in Brisbane, Australia
Kauri Lane, located in Brisbane, Australia, has transformed a constrained urban void into a vibrant green retreat. This narrow space, up to 15 meters wide and situated between four residential towers ranging from 6 to 30 stories, serves as a shared 'backyard' for residents. The project, designed by ASPECT Studios, prioritizes soft landscaping and human-scale elements to create a restorative atmosphere. It features a subterranean-like ravine forest, designed to suit its urban microclimate, and includes 12 significant, mature Kauri Pines. The design allocates 80% of its 980m2 footprint to permeable deep soil to support rich plant life, maximizing ecological and microclimatic impact. The project also incorporates a closed-loop water system, capturing and reusing rainwater in a 200,000-liter tank.
