North Korea has expanded its mandatory HIV testing policy to include service-sector workers, such as those in hotels, restaurants, and department stores, who may come into contact with foreigners. This policy, which previously targeted travelers, is drawing criticism due to its cost and the social stigma associated with testing. Workers are required to pay for the tests themselves, leading to financial burdens and psychological stress. The government maintains that there are no domestic HIV cases, yet the lack of education on transmission and prevention fuels public confusion and anxiety.
