Democratic Lawmakers Condemn Journalist's 'AIPAC Monkey' Remark Against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries
Multiple Democratic lawmakers, including Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, New York Congressman Ritchie Torres, and Ohio Congresswoman Shontel Brown, have condemned Palestinian journalist Rula Jebreal for referring to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as an 'AIPAC monkey' and 'errand boy.' The Congressional Black Caucus issued a statement asserting that there is no non-racist way to use such language against a Black man. The controversy arose after Jebreal made the remarks during an appearance on 'The Left Hook Podcast.' Joy Reid later defended Jebreal on her web show, suggesting that Jebreal's rhetoric was a result of a 'cultural disconnection' and a lack of full understanding of African-American history by those not born and raised in the U.S. Jebreal subsequently apologized, stating that the term she used was inappropriate and offensive, and that she took full responsibility for her mistake.
