Mali Separatists and Islamic Militants Launch Coordinated Attacks, Prompting Regional Condemnation
In a significant escalation of violence, the al-Qaida-linked group JNIM, in collaboration with the Tuareg-led separatist group Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), launched coordinated attacks across Mali, including on Bamako's international airport and four other cities. The attacks resulted in at least 16 wounded, comprising both civilians and military personnel. This marks the first instance of the FLA working alongside JNIM, highlighting a new level of cooperation between separatists and Islamic militants. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) condemned the attacks, urging regional unity against such threats. The Malian government, supported by Russian mercenaries, has been struggling to maintain control, with recent military withdrawals from key areas like Kidal following these attacks.
