Attorney General Jackson Advocates for Stricter FCC Rules to Combat Illegal Robocalls
Attorney General Jeff Jackson is spearheading an initiative involving 50 attorneys general to urge the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to implement stricter regulations aimed at curbing illegal robocalls. The group is advocating for the enhancement of the FCC's 'Know Your Customer' rules, which mandate that phone companies identify the users of their networks. Jackson emphasizes that these stricter rules would facilitate the identification and disconnection of scammers by phone companies. The attorneys general are also pushing for uniform compliance from both small and large phone providers, ensuring they monitor entities making a high volume of calls. This initiative is part of the second phase of Operation Robocall Roundup, a nationwide campaign led by Jackson to tackle the issue of illegal robocalls. Last year, Americans received over 29.6 billion scam robocalls and texts, resulting in nearly $2 billion in losses.
