US Coast Guard Names Ship After NYPD Hero Killed on 9/11, Honoring His Legacy
The U.S. Coast Guard has named a new search and rescue ship after Vincent Danz, an NYPD officer who died during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The ship, christened as the US GC Vincent Danz, was unveiled at the Intrepid Museum in New York City. It is part of a series of 77 ships ordered by the Coast Guard, each named after a hero who demonstrated extraordinary service. Danz, a Marine veteran and member of the NYPD's elite Emergency Services Unit, was killed while responding to the attacks and is believed to have been in the North Tower when it collapsed. The ship will serve in the Western Pacific, conducting search and rescue missions, combating illicit activities, and ensuring maritime safety. A piece of World Trade Center steel is incorporated into the ship's structure, symbolizing Danz's legacy.
