Japan's Exports and Imports Surge in June 2026 Amid Weak Yen and AI Demand
Japan's exports and imports in June 2026 experienced their fastest growth since November 2022. Exports rose by 19.3% year-on-year, driven by strong shipments of semiconductor equipment and a weak yen. This growth exceeded the expectations of an 18.6% rise, as forecasted by economists. Imports also soared by 25.4% year-on-year, surpassing the anticipated 21% increase. The AI boom has significantly contributed to this economic upswing, boosting shares of domestic tech companies like Tokyo Electron, Renesas Electronics, and Advantest. The Bank of Japan noted that the global demand for AI has mitigated concerns over an economic slowdown, despite the yen's depreciation to multi-decade lows.
