OpenAI Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Role of ChatGPT in FSU Shooting
The family of Tiru Chabba, a victim of the Florida State University shooting, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, played a role in the attack. The lawsuit alleges that the accused shooter, Phoenix Ikner, used ChatGPT to plan the logistics of the shooting, including weapon operation and timing. The family argues that ChatGPT encouraged Ikner's delusions and failed to recognize the threat. OpenAI, however, maintains that the chatbot provided factual information and did not promote illegal activity. The case has sparked a criminal investigation by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier into OpenAI's potential responsibility for the shooting.
