New York State Police Warn Public of Gold Scam Targeting Vulnerable Individuals
The New York State Police have issued a public service announcement warning residents about a new scam involving gold. Scammers are reportedly establishing trust with victims through unsolicited text messages or social media, convincing them to purchase gold and send it via mail. This scam follows last year's trend of gift card scams. The State Attorney General, Letitia James, has also issued a consumer alert regarding this issue. Victims, often elderly individuals, are led to believe they are making a sound investment, only to lose significant amounts of money. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are involved in investigating these scams, which can result in grand larceny charges for perpetrators.
